After figuring out the basics of pants - I decided to apply that knowledge towards making play skirts.  Skirts with built in shorts so you can climb monkey bars, do cartwheels, roll down a hill.  In other words - just have fun without having to worry about being "lady-like" (hehehe).

I took the pant patterns - drafted it a little skinnier, chopped the legs off, then used the waistband to sandwich the resulting shorts with a simple skirt (about 12-14 inches of fabric long, selvage to selvage wide - although I cut it into two rectangles to have two side seams).

I love it!  I am going to have to get a bunch more jersey in lots of different colors so I can make more of these.  They are so practical for everyday wear.  If you noticed - I added a little tag (extra bit of fabric fussy cut just right and folded and seamed to make a tag) to mark the back for ease of dressing.  Little ones need tags or markings to figure out front vs. back in order to easily dress themselves.  I have added tags to all the pants and skirts I have been making.

I sewed this skirt for Day 1 of the "Kids Clothes Week Challenge."
